Time format:

Index (comparable)
Description:

Developed by DG Research and Innovation of the European Commission, the She Figures Index is a composite indicator that aims to measure Member States’ progress towards gender equality in research and innovation (R&I), and, where possible, to explore progress over time. The Index is part of the She Figures report.

The Index measures gender inequalities in R&I in six key dimensions:

  • segregation in the talent pipeline;
  • research careers and sectors;
  • career progression;
  • representation in decision-making positions;
  • research participation; and
  • the gender dimension in R&I content (GDRIC).

Each dimension is scored from 0 to 100, with higher scores corresponding to more equality. The overall index score is a simple average of the six dimension scores.

Full details of the methodology are provided in the She Figures 2024 Handbook.
