Migrant girls in an EU Member State at risk of FGM by country of origin and age group (high scenario) genvio_genmut_rm_mthd_hi__fgm_reg_res_migr_high

Time format:
Years
Unit:
Number
Unit:
Percentage (comparable)
Description:

This indicator presents both the number and the percentage of migrant girls (first- and second-generation) by age group (0-18, 0-9, 10-18) from an FGM-practising country, living in an EU Member State, who have been found at risk of FGM. In the high scenario (2015 methodology), a girl’s level of risk is linked to whether she is younger than the median age at which FGM occurs in the country of origin (the ‘risk’ age band). It is assumed that migration and acculturation do not affect FGM prevalence for first-generation girls or for second-generation girls in the ‘risk’ age band (i.e. the risk is the same for both groups as it would have been in the country of origin).

Migrant girls have been resident in a Member State for at least one year. The list of FGM-practising countries at the time of the 2018 study was Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Côte d’Ivoire, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea‑Bissau, Guinea-Conakry, Indonesia, Iraq, Kenya, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan, Togo, Uganda, Tanzania, Yemen.
