This indicator presents the number of migrant girls (first- and second-generation), who have been resident in a Member State for at least one year, who originate from an FGM-practising country and who are younger than the median age at which FGM occurs in the country of origin (as registered by the Demographic and Health Surveys). It presents only the number of girls who are younger than the median age, from within the broader age groups (0-18, 0-9, 10-18).
The list of FGM-practising countries at the time of the 2018 study was Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Côte d’Ivoire, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea‑Bissau, Guinea-Conakry, Indonesia, Iraq, Kenya, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan, Togo, Uganda, Tanzania, Yemen.
