This indicator shows the drawbacks platform workers report about working on digital platforms.

The indicator is based on responses to the question: From your experience, what are the main drawbacks of working via online platforms? Respondents could select up to three options from the below list.

  • Boring, uninteresting tasks or work assignments
  • Difficulty to combine with household chores and/ or family commitments
  • Poor access to social security (e.g., health insurance, sick leave, benefits, etc.)
  • Low or unfair pay
  • Lack of possibilities for skills and career advancement
  • Issues with the platform(s) (e.g., unfair terms and conditions, issues with booking process, etc.)
  • Issues with clients (e.g., unfair, unreasonable client demands etc.)
  • Difficulties in securing tasks/ work assignments on platforms
  • Stressful nature of work via online platforms
  • Unfair ratings or disproportionate influence of rating system on your work
  • Poor health and safety conditions at work
  • High competition for tasks/ work assignments
  • Unpredictable working hours

This indicator is disaggregated by household type. Household types include women and men who are: single without children; lone parents / single cohabiting with children; in a couple without children; in a couple cohabitating with children; other.
