This indicator shows the online tasks carried out by platform workers via online platforms.

The indicator is based on responding to have 'working (freelancing) via online platforms, when work is web-based and provided remotely' to the question: Have you ever gained income from any of the following sources? Respondents were forced to choose one of the following five sectors of collaborative economy:

  • Selling products or your own possessions on online marketplaces (e.g. Etsy, eBay and others)
  • Renting out real estate or accommodation on online platforms (e.g. Airbnb, Sharedesk, Nestpick and others)
  • Leasing out goods on online platforms (e.g. Turo, PeerRenters and others)
  • Crowdfunding or lending money on peer-to-peer lending platforms (e.g. Kickstarter, Indiegogo, Zopa, Prosper, Kiva and others)
  • Working (freelancing) via online platforms, when work is web-based and provided remotely (e.g. IT or creative work, data entry, translation or other tasks using platforms such as Upwork, Freelancer, Clickworker, PeoplePerHour and others)
  • Working (freelancing) via online platforms, when work is performed on-location (e.g. delivery, driving, cleaning, temporary auxiliary work, or other services at a specific location, using platforms such as Uber, Deliveroo, Handy, Airtasker, TaskRabbit, MyBuilder and others)

This indicator is disaggregated by age of respondent. This is grouped into three age groups: 20-34; 35-49; and 50-64.
