Description:

This indicator shows the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on platform workers.

The indicator is based on responses to the question: Since March 2020, have you experienced any of the following situations because of the COVID-19 pandemic or related policy measures (e.g., lockdowns, quarantine, closures of businesses, schools, etc.)? Respondents could select multiple responses from the below list.

• I lost my paid job
• My spouse or partner lost paid job
• My household's financial situation deteriorated
• I had to leave my accommodation because I could no longer afford it
• I had to spend more time for household chores and care (e.g. of children, disabled, elderly or infirm family members, neighbours or friends)
• I had to take leave or time-off from paid job because I was sick
• I had to take leave or time-off from paid job because I was in quarantine or self-isolation
• I had to take leave or time-off from paid job because it was closed, lost clients or significantly reduced business activities

This indicator is disaggregated by the education level of the respondent. Responses were grouped into three levels of education according to the International Standard Classification of Education (ISCED): “Low” (ISCED 1-2), “Medium” (ISCED 3-4) and “High” (ISCED 5-8).

ISCED levels are:

• 1. Primary education or less
• 2. Lower secondary education or equivalent level
• 3. Secondary education (e.g. high school)
• 4. Post-secondary education non-tertiary (e.g. technical education lasting minimum 6 months)
• 5. Short-cycle tertiary (e.g. advanced vocational education lasting minimum 2 years)
• 6. University: Bachelor’s or equivalent level
• 7. University: Master’s or equivalent level
• 8. University: Doctoral (PhD) or equivalent level
