Time format:
Years
Unit:
Percentage (comparable)
Description:

This dataset shows the reasons why parents of children aged 0–5 were unable to access all the formal early childhood education and care services they needed.

The figures indicate what percentage (%) of the target population selected each reason. The target population are all respondents who use early childhood education and care services and were unable to receive all the services they needed.

The dataset is based on the answers of carers to the question ‘Why were you unable to access all the formal early childhood education and care services (e.g. kindergarten, day care centre, a crèche) for your children aged 0–5 years that you needed?’

Respondents could select up to three reasons from the following list:

  • Can’t afford it
  • No such care services are available
  • Waiting list is too long
  • Administrative burden to access services is too heavy
  • The person needing service is not eligible
  • The quality of the services available is not satisfactory
  • Services are too far away
  • No suitable opening hours
  • Other reasons (e.g. language barriers, lack of information)

This indicator is disaggregated by household type. For the purposes of this indicator, five household types are distinguished:

  • Single without children
  • Lone parents or single cohabiting with children
  • In a couple without children
  • In a couple cohabitating with children
  • Other
