This dataset shows the reasons why parents of children aged 0–5 were unable to access all the formal early childhood education and care services they needed.
The figures indicate what percentage (%) of the target population selected each reason. The target population are all respondents who use early childhood education and care services and were unable to receive all the services they needed.
The dataset is based on the answers of carers to the question ‘Why were you unable to access all the formal early childhood education and care services (e.g. kindergarten, day care centre, a crèche) for your children aged 0–5 years that you needed?’
Respondents could select up to three reasons from the following list:
This indicator is disaggregated by the education level of the respondent. Responses were grouped into three levels of education according to the International Standard Classification of Education (ISCED): “Low” (ISCED 1-2), “Medium” (ISCED 3-4) and “High” (ISCED 5-8). ISCED levels are: Primary education or less, Lower secondary education or equivalent level, Secondary education (e.g. high school), Post-secondary education non-tertiary (e.g. technical education lasting minimum 6 months), Short-cycle tertiary (e.g. advanced vocational education lasting minimum 2 years), University: Bachelor’s or equivalent level, University: Master’s or equivalent level or University: Doctoral (PhD) or equivalent level.
