Days per week respondent provides childcare for own children, by type of childcare activity and age group eige_gap_child_resp__ggs_child_own_days_age

Time format:
Years
Unit:
Percentage (comparable)
Description:

This dataset shows how often in a typical week people provide different types of childcare activities to their own children (including step-children and adopted children). For each type of activity, the numbers indicate what percentage (%) of all people who provide childcare to their own children aged less than 25 have selected each frequency category for that type of activity.

Respondents were asked about five types of childcare activities:

  • Personal and physical care (e.g. bathing, feeding, changing diapers, help with taking medicines)
  • Assistance with homework and school tasks
  • Planning, organising and managing children’s activities and transportation (e.g. getting to appointments, sport, school and healthcare, talking to teachers, organising parties)
  • Leisure-type activities (e.g. playing, reading, doing sports)
  • Supervising and emotional support (e.g. listening to, talking to and advising the children)

For each type of activity, respondents selected one frequency category from the following list:

  • Every day
  • 4 to 6 days a week
  • 1 to 3 days a week
  • Less often
  • Never

This indicator is disaggregated by the age of the respondent. Five categories are used: 16-24; 25-49; 50-64; 65 or more.
