Time format:

Percentage (comparable)
Description:

This indicator shows the distribution of childcare tasks among women and men with childcare responsibilities, either in their own household or another household (e.g., grandchildren), both before and during the pandemic. Childcare responsibilities are divided according to the age of the children (children aged 0-11, and children aged 12-17) and by type of childcare task (care and supervision, schoolwork, playing, and managing schedules and activities).

Valid responses were grouped into the four categories:

  • Almost completely/for the most part my partner
  • About equal or both together
  • Almost completely/for the most part me
  • Mainly another person

More information on the methodological aspects of EIGE’s survey ‘Gender Equality and Socio-Economic Consequences of Covid-19 crisis’ can be obtained in the technical report.

This indicator is disaggregated by the education level of the respondent. Responses were grouped into three levels of education according to the International Standard Classification of Education (ISCED): “Low” (ISCED 1-2), “Medium” (ISCED 3-4) and “High” (ISCED 5-8).

ISCED levels are:

  • 1. Primary education or less
  • 2. Lower secondary education or equivalent level
  • 3. Secondary education (e.g. high school)
  • 4. Post-secondary education non-tertiary (e.g. technical education lasting minimum 6 months)
  • 5. Short-cycle tertiary (e.g. advanced vocational education lasting minimum 2 years)
  • 6. University: Bachelor’s or equivalent level
  • 7. University: Master’s or equivalent level
  • 8. University: Doctoral (PhD) or equivalent level
