Mental well-being index (WHO-5) of people having/ lacking childcare and informal long-term care responsibilities, by age group eige_care_hlth__care_hlth_ment_age

Time format:
Years
Unit:
Percentage (comparable)
Description:

This indicator explores the relationship between mental health and well-being, on the one hand, and long-term care and/or childcare responsibilities, on the other hand.

In particular, the indicator shows what percentage (%) or respondents belongs to each of four levels of mental health and well-being according to the WHO-5 Welbeing Index. The Index values range from 0 (lowest level of mental well-being) to 100 (highest level of mental well-being). For the purposes of this indicator, respondents' mental well-being has been classified into four levels depending on the value of the Index: (1) High (>=80); (2) Average (51–79); (3) Low (29–50); (4) Very low (<=28). The thresholds have been largely based on existing research on the interpretation of the Index.

The percentages have been computed separately for each of four groups of respondents defined by their care responsibilities:

  • Neither LTC not childcare responsibilities (for own children)
  • Only long-term care responsibilities
  • Only childcare responsibilities (for own children)
  • Both long-term care and childcare responsibilities (for own children)

This indicator is disaggregated by the age of the respondent. Five categories are used: 16–24; 25–49; 50–64; 65–74.
