H4. Production and dissemination of statistics disaggregated by sex

Good quality statistics that allow the situation of women and men to be compared and contrasted are crucial both as an evidence base for informed policy making and for awareness raising. Hence strategic objective H3 of the BPfA aims to ensure that the relevant data are routinely collected and openly disseminated. To monitor this objective, indicator H4 comprises three sub-indicators:

  • H4a: Government commitment to the production of statistics disaggregated by sex
  • H4b: Government commitment to the dissemination of statistics disaggregated by sex (only until 2018)
  • H4c: Methods in use for the dissemination of gender statistics

Note that:

  • Sub-indicator H4b (Government commitment to the dissemination of statistics disaggregated by sex) was dropped in 2021 following review of the conceptual and measurement frameworks for monitoring of institutional mechanisms (see 2021 methodological report)

Important note: due to changes to the questions used to populate the indicators, the data prior to 2021 are not comparable through time. Data for 2021 and 2024 are considered comparable (see 2024 methodological report).

Labels for each of the indicators and sub-indicators show the maximum score possible and how this has changed through time.
